In Rathkeevin NS we feel that promoting physical activity and well-being is vital for the overall development of each child. We aim to all types of physical activity and ensure that children are provided with ample opportunity to try a variety of activities.
We are aiming to get our Active Flag this year having embedded many initiatives in the school over the last few years and we have planned many more this year with the children being central to all activities. We continue to run Active Breaks where the children in the senior classes lead the children in the younger classes by playing different games with them. This has proved to be something that the younger children really enjoy and has been great for the confidence of the children in the senior classes. We have our Active team go into each class on rainy days to do activities with the children that get them up and moving. Our Active Week continues to go from strength to strength each year with the children getting to try different activities each year.
Our Active Committee are vital to the success of everything that we do in the school and thankfully we are blessed with children that are energetic, enthusiastic and are constantly coming up with new initiatives that aim to promote health and fitness within the school. Our Active Slogan was chosen and is displayed in our corridor for everyone to see. We are very lucky that we have staff that row in behind all our ideas and ensure that physical wellbeing is seen as a vital component in the children’s lives.
In essence, we at Rathkeevin NS are creating a culture of activity in schools where students learn the importance of staying active, working together, and embracing healthy habits from a young age.
